news / NMMC revamps exhibition space and wayfinding

It was celebration time on Monday night at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, as work was completed on the Museum’s major gallery reorganisation.

Contractors from across Cornwall have been involved in the project to create a new temporary exhibition space called The Hold, as well as a new orientation zone as visitors enter the Museum. The teams from A2 Rigging, Marnick Builders Ltd, 20/20 Displays and Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole Architects, celebrated alongside staff and volunteers from the Museum with a glass of bubbly.

20/20 designed and produced new maps, directional signs and banners, together with a 3 dimensional map to encourage exploration of the exhibition spaces.

Museum Director Jonathan Griffin said: “Wherever possible the Maritime Museum tires to support local businesses, so when we decided to make these changes it went without saying that we would get Cornish contractors on board.  We have been rewarded by the quality and helpfulness that we have received and the project as a whole has been extremely successful.  We hope when our visitors see it they will whole heartedly agree. It’s because of them that we’ve done it – so I hope they like it.”

The Museum is now fully open again and looking forward to a busy 2009.
